“If you’re working on something you’re not really into, you’re not gonna do it very well.”
-David S. Ward (Academy Award winner for Best Original Screenplay)My name is Ted Shuttleworth. I’ve spent more than 15 years as a film development executive and story analyst for Dreamworks (Uni), Red Wagon (Sony), and New Regency (Fox), and written notes and coverage on more than 4000 screenplays. Working inside some of the best companies in the film world has shown me that while vast piles of generic spec scripts clutter development offices all over town it is the screenwriter with a distinctive voice and unique vision that Hollywood’s top filmmakers truly take notice of and want to work with. Therefore, I believe that the best way to break in to the Hollywood screenwriting business is not to follow rigid step methods and contrive a story that apes popular trends. It is done by challenging yourself to write a movie you’d love to see — a script which has a real chance to stand out from the pack.
In the story notes I provide and in follow up consultations, I work with my clients – both established professionals and talented newcomers – to craft a powerful and compelling blueprint for the movie they dream of seeing on the big screen. I encourage tight, intelligent structure that drives the story forward with every scene, bright characters and memorable dialogue. The resulting work is smart, inventive, and makes a favorable impression with readers at every level.
