Who is Ted Shuttleworth?
A native New Yorker, Ted is a graduate of the Tisch School of the Arts at NYU, where he received a BFA in Film Production.
Ted’s first job in the movie business came in 1989, when he served as Harrison Ford‘s on-set PA during the filming of the Warner Bros. thriller “Presumed Innocent.” Soon after production wrapped, Ted moved out to LA and landed a development internship with producer Arnold Kopelson (“Platoon”, “Seven”, “The Fugitive”). While there he was first to read and recommend a spec script by an unheralded screenwriter called “Dead Reckoning” that Kopelson and Warner Bros. bought the next day for $1 million.
Ted moved on to a job at Steven Spielberg‘s Amblin Entertainment, where he worked as one of the company’s small group of top-shelf reader/script analysts. Ted was then hired to serve as Director of Development for famed independent producer Edward R. Pressman (“Badlands”, “Wall Street”, “Reversal of Fortune”, “Thank You For Smoking”). During his tenure there, Ted made creative contributions to more than a dozen projects in active development, including Mary Harron‘s “American Psycho” and David Mamet‘s “Edmond.”
In an effort to be more directly involved in the film making process, Ted began to write his own screenplays, which he hoped to produce as well. He found quick success with his second completed script, a film bio of Pink Floyd founder Syd Barrett called “Crazy Diamond” which attracted the interest of director Ridley Scott, producer Nigel Sinclair, and actor Johnny Depp.
Ted joined the Writers Guild of America West and signed as a writing client at UTA. On the strength of another of his ambitious screenplays, the suburban cop thriller “Vatican Hill,” Ted landed a choice assignment as a network television writer on “NYPD Blue” (ABC/20th Fox), earning two produced credits. And all the while he continued to work as an elite story analyst and script consultant for many of the best companies in the industry, including James Cameron’s Lightstorm Entertainment, New Regency Productions (20th Fox), Mandalay Entertainment (SPE), and Red Wagon Entertainment (SPE).
In 2006, Ted and his wife, Isadora, relocated back to NYC where he continues to work as a top, albeit long distance, Hollywood story analyst. He is also father to twin girls, Alexandra and Angelina, born in June, 2011. In between feedings, Ted is currently at work on a new screenplay and has recently completed a draft of his first novel, a dystopian sci-fi adventure entitled “Niagara.”
